The final EAA meeting for the 2016 summer break

Today was the final EAA meeting before the summer break. The event was held out at the Parkland Airport (CPL6). It was a pretty good turnout. Unfortunately only one member was able to fly out that day even though it was decent VFR weather. The BBQ was delicious of course and after we were given a tour of the various planes and hangers that the Edmonton Flying Club has. I must say that I am extremely impressed with the 'stable of planes' that the flying club has. All new/newer Cessna's with Glass cockpits and very well taken care of.

Of note was a privately owned Cirrus with a paint scheme that caught my eye. Very simple and clean, yet striking in my opinion. Not 100% sure about the gold color for me (although I think it is amazing on this cirrus) but the simple transition and the pin striping and details peaked my interest. Took a bunch of pictures for my paint scheme ideas.

EAA Meeting #2

I ended up taking my VS rear spar to the meeting to have some of the other members look over my work. All in all its as it was expected. Some rivets look good, a few need to be redone (The ones closest to the bottom brackets). One member has suggested bucking the rivets rather than sqeezing or using the back rivet set. He said that bucking them would allow me to get a whole lot closer. He was very encouraging and mentioned that it takes a while to develop the skills. He said that often folks will end up redoing their entire empennage at the very end of the project because their skills have improved so much by the time they get through the wings. I suppose I just have to chug away at it. if it works...great. If not, Oh well.

First EAA chapter 30 meeting

Tonight was my first EAA chapter meeting. The group was a bit larger than I thought there would be. The president of the chapter gave a presentation of his recent trip to New York filled with tons of little tips. Met a couple of nice folks. Mike is working on an F1 rocket and is just a bit farther ahead than me. Jim, was eager to help with advice. In just a 10 min conversation I picked up more from him than I have in 30 hours of building. The EAA chapter is just a great resource.
